MISSION
To support Asian American students and to develop a stronger Asian American presence and community within University Residence
Halls by impacting students and staff within Residential Life, providing Asian American history and culture, and fostering
an educational and social environment to allow student growth.
SHORT HISTORY
The Asian American Student Housing Organization first existed as APAC Housing and was under the direct supervision of the
Asian Pacific American Coalition (APAC). APAC Housing started Fall 2003 with their new student outreach program, ADAPT, which
gives students an opportunity to interact with other new students and top student leaders from over 10-15 Asian American Organizations,
Fraternities, Sororities, etc. As a separate programming unit of APAC at the time, the University of Illinois Housing &
Residential Life funded most of APAC Housings programs which were aimed at the Residence Hall students. In Fall 2005, APAC
Housing officially became a UIUC Housing & Residential Life organization. APAC Housing changed its name to the Asian
American Housing Organization, which was later changed to the Asian American Student Housing Organization (AASHO), pronounced
(ah-sho). During Spring 2006, over eight programs were done within various Residence Halls on campus including an off campus
field trip to Chicago's Chinatown and the Chinese American Museum of Chicago.
